Corporate blogs can be used successfully by any type of business, whether it be an online company or a grocery store. Google became number one on Technorati’s top Corporate Blogs, and has significantly influenced the use of blogs in the corporate world. While this search engin helped beging the blogging practice, Whole Foods has perfected the process by combinding “business news infused with the unique Whole Foods philosophy , along with delicious topics on all kinds of food, wine, and environmental issues” (Adam). Advantages and Disadvantages of Blogging

Blogging has been a successful business practice that has been rapidly growing the last several years, but many still have reservations about participating. Some of the most concerning disadvantages of blogging stem from managements inability to trust employees to post appropriate public comments. Also, blogs are very simple to set-up but take a lot of maintenance with both filtering comments and updating the design. Ther is also an issue with time, though blogs are a great way to share information, it is difficult to find the time to post it (Enterprise Blog Info, Disadvantages). For many however, the advantages of blogging strongly outweigh the costs. This practice helps connect the entire supply chain, from resource suppliers to the end customer. It also allows companies to gain instant feedback from both customers and employees, as well as allowing for constant corporate-wide brainstorming. Though it does require constant maintenance, the work can be done quickly and easily by anyone available. Obviously the communication that blogging creates in an company is imperative.

Companies Using Blogs

Currently there have been several surveys conducted about the usage of corporate blogs. One site reported the following statistics: ” 27% were actively using them, another 27%, another 27% were piloting or considering them, with the remaining 46% answering, “No, and we have no plans to”(Marketing Technology) . It was also concluded that by May 11th of 2009 only “81 of the Fortune 500” companies actively use blogging when conducting everyday business (Yunker).
